New Nano Tech Center opened in Ulyanovsk

Today industrial zone of “Transvolga” in Ulyanovsk boasts a new Nano Tech Center «Ulnanotech». The project started back in 2010 with a total budget of 1.3 billion rubles, including 800 million rubles from the "RUSNANO".  OJSC "Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation", JSC "State Scientific Center - Research Institute of Atomic Reactors" and CJSC "Simbirskaya casting company" are also among the investors.

General Director of "Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation" Dmitry Ryabov said that the new Nano Tech Center has capacities to locate startups, laboratories and pilot-line production. In an interview with "Kommersant-Volga" top managers of «Ulnanotech» confided that the center plans to attract ideas and specialists from Europe and America (no specific ways to make it happen were mentioned though).

Research and development in the Ulyanovsk region involves 5 universities, 8 scientific-and-research and industrial organizations, 11 large and 70 small and medium enterprises. Research staff of Ulyanovsk is 250 doctors and 1,400 candidates of sciences. According to Rospatent,  the region belongs to the group of high inventive activity regions with 3.46 coefficient (the average coefficient for Russia is 2).

The Board of Directors of «Ulnanotech» has already approved 28 projects in areas such as automotive, construction, aviation, medicine and biotechnology. It is assumed that in the Center will launch 96 start-ups and create about 7.5 thousand jobs with wages above average for the region.
Right now there are 10 nanocenters in Russia, two more are to be opened in Kazan and Saransk.
