Google Glass VS Autism: how to takle the problem using new technology

20.08.2013 8:03

U.S. startup Sension is working on an application that helps a Google Glass user to recognize another person’s emotions. The program can monitor the owner's eye movements and recognize the other person’s facial movements. The software analyses 76 points on the face of the interlocutor and tells what emotion it is: joy, surprise or sadness.

The software was originally designed to make online teaching tools more efficient. For example, it could automatically pause a video lecture responding to user's movements when the student turned away from the screen.

After the release of Google Glass, 18-year-old Stanford University freshman Catalin Voss saw  new horizons of using the device. He believes it can serve as a tool for autistic users to identify facial cues in real time.

Voss said he hopes the software could be used as an educational tool and would eventually teach autistic users how to interpret emotions themselves.

Right now the software is still being built but the demo version is already released.
