British government plans to replace real secretaries with a hologram.

British authorities are planning to replace some of the real secretaries by  virtual ones. System developers claim the image to be "holographic", but it is not exactly true: they are using a standard technology of projecting an image on a transparent screen. The first government office to receive a virtual secretary is London City Council.

A young woman’s image is not 100% computer-generated . British actress Shanice Stewart-Jones was asked to play the  role of the receptionist and  the videos were used  to create the hologram.

It’s quite logical that the virtual secretary was named after the actress. So far everything looks good: Shanice sits behind a desk just like a real receptionist but with a touch-screen that has a list of FAQ. The visitor can choose the question and get an answer from Shanice. So far she is giving directions about locations in the building but her information range is to be widened soon.

The government hopes to save some budget money by replacing the human members of the staff by Shanice if the experiment proves to be effective. Real secretaries are not thrilled by the idea but so it goes.
